Turret

An Electron application that hosts Claude Code sessions, with modes.

A turret lathe holds several tools and indexes between them, one at a time, on demand. That is the session model. A mode contributes tools, panes and a prompt fragment to a session, and the session indexes between them as the work asks.

Download Turret macOS Windows Linux

The first button picks the build for the machine it is clicked on. The macOS build is Apple silicon only and arrives as a zip holding Turret.app. Windows gets an installer. Linux gets an x64 AppImage: make it executable and run it. Turret updates itself after that.

Windows and Linux show a warning

The Windows installer and the Linux AppImage are both unsigned. Windows: SmartScreen puts a panel in front of it the first time it runs. More info, then Run anyway. Linux: the file needs its executable bit set before it runs. Mark it with chmod +x, or tick the box in the file's properties. The macOS build is signed and notarised and opens without a warning.

What it is

One desktop application hosting many Claude Code sessions. Each session runs the claude executable as a child process against a working directory. The app supplies the tools that process is given, the panes that draw its output, and the fragment of system prompt that tells it what kind of session it is in.

Sessions talk to each other, spawn each other and are scheduled, through an in-process tool layer, rather than everything being a subagent.

Three modes

What a mode is, and what each of the three contributes. There is a page each on designing a part in CAD mode and building a game for game mode.

It holds no credential

Claude Code runs as a child process and authenticates with the user's own login. Turret drives an existing Claude Code installation and an existing subscription. There is no account to make and no key to paste.
